Obituary of Thomas J. Bennett

Thomas J. Bennett passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 7, 2023. He was born on June 10, 1935 to Willie & Rudell Bennett on a cotton farm in Grove Oak, AL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, after 67 years of marriage. Tommy retired from Rock Ten after 40 years of employment. His love of gardening was evident in the beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables he carefully grew each year. He loved sharing with friends and family and had a servant's heart. He would spend hours watching birds and built many birdhouses for his yard and for others. In addition to his wife, Tommy was preceded in death by two brothers: Edward and Jay Bennett; grandson: Thomas Tyler Bennett. Survivors include his children: Debra (Eugene) Sims, Kathy (Gary) Neloms, Dale (Kim) Bennett, Lisa Melton; grandsons: Wes Bennett, Ryan Bennett, Blake Bennett, Chase Bennett, Trey Melton, Caden Blaylock; sisters: Izader Dalton, Mary (Dwight) Tinney, Velma Lewis, Joan Edmondson. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 12:00 to 2:00 CST at W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel in Rainsville, AL with service immediately following with Rev. Josh Cornelius officiating. Graveside service will follow at Piney Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Wes, Blake, Chase, Trey, and Houston.
