Obituary of Rebecca "Becky" Spears Wood
Please share a memory of Rebecca "Becky" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rebecca Spears Wood, born September 26, 1935 to Russell and Myrtle Spears, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday June 14, 2023. She was surrounded by family praying and praising God as she left her earthly body to be present with her heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Myrtle Spears, brothers G.L. and J.D. Spears, husband, Earnest T. Wood, and her eldest daughter, Kay Hanby.
"Becky" as she was known by most, was born in Oxanna to a Mill Worker/Minister and a Seamstress. She was the youngest of three children, having two older brothers. She was a daddy's girl and loved new adventures. She is survived by her children, Wesley Wood, Tony (Erika) Wood, Tim (Michelle) Wood, and Kim (Jimbo) Payne. Surviving are her twelve grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
She was a daughter, sister, wife, mom, mawmaw, aunt and friend. She was a lunchroom lady, seamstress/sock and shirt maker, church custodian, and craft lover. She was a baker, caterer, quilter, painter, and drawer. She was a jack of all trades and made sure whatever she had was shared with all. She made sure to look out for those around her and lend a helping hand to those in need. She raised five children and never met a stranger. Anyone her children brought home instantly was taken care of. She spent her time making thousands of meals for the neighborhood kids when they would come over to play pool, ball, or music. Her house was made a home because she was in it. This carried on throughout the years as her children grew and her grandchildren were born, many of which spent time living with her as well.
To condense her life into a few words is impossible. Her life is a testament to putting others before herself. She was kind and always greeted others with her warm smile. She made a difference in the lives of all those she knew. What a great heavenly reunion we will have one day.
Funeral Services will be held at 12pm on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Wesley's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10am-12pm, prior to the service, on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the funeral home. Officiating are her sons, Tony Wood and Tim Wood.
