Obituary of Billy Eugene Chitwood

Billy Eugene Chitwood died on July 10, 2023 of Malignant Stage 4 Cancer.
Chitwood was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother in law, friend
and veteran.
Chitwood was born to Dan and Geneva Chitwood on March 29, 1940 in Fort Payne Alabama, worked
for Tiners Radio and TV Shop until graduating from Dekalb High School ultimately joining the US
Navy where he met and married his wife of 61years.
Chitwood was a retired 21yr veteran of the US Navy serving his Country during both Korean and
Vietnam Wars where he received two Meritorious Unit Commendations for his service while aboard
the USS Midway and USS Ranger, later retiring in 1977. Chitwood, like his father, was a long-time
member of the Masonic Lodge went on to work and retired from Walt Disney World in 2003.
Chitwood enjoyed spending time with his family and friends usually fishing. He spent the last part of
his life overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway in Sneads Ferry NC with his family.
Chitwood is survived by his wife, Joyce Anne Dixon Chitwood, daughter, Crystal Victoria Lee
Chitwood Rivers, grandson, Terrance Joseph Rivers, grand daughter Ashley Nicole Marie Oller,
grandson, Charles Ray Rivers, great grandson Ryland Maddox Oller, sisters Dicie Chitwood Ashley
and Naldia Chitwood Killough, daughter in law, Krista Leigh Rivers and sister in laws, Mary Lou
Chitwood and Jackie Chitwood.
Chitwood is preceded in death by his parents Daniel Cornelius Chitwood and Geneva Carroll
Chitwood; brothers, Reuben C Chitwood, Hugh Dan Chitwood, Johnny Chitwood and Wallace J
Chitwood; brother-in-law Carol Killough and sister-in-law Carolyn Chandler Chitwood 2023.
Viewing will be held August 11, between 5-8PM at W.T. Wilsons Funeral Chapel, 2226 Shiloh Cir
Rainsville AL.
Services will be held on August 12, 2023 at 10AM at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Grove Oak AL.
There will be a Military Graveside Service.
Arrangements entrusted to W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel.
